EGO: A Misunderstanding Born Of An Experience Of Separation

Posted on Jun 11th, 2008 by Dreamtraveler : shaman of experience Dreamtraveler
As I have explored this experience of a deepening awareness of self, I have become aware of a concept, that having stayed unattatched to, has, in my opinion, allowed a greater ease in the ability to become aware and observant of myself, in a relatively abbreviated manner, and to allow me to come to an awareness of the movements I was, or am within, in a manner that allows for a rapidity and ease of movement of resolution to the situation or experience.

The concept I reference Is that of the Ego, as it is frequently defined in Eastern religious and metaphysical circles.

Though I have not studied Eastern religions such as Buddhism or Taoism to a great degree, and as such, perhaps cannot speak to the concept as it may be unadulteratedly offered by those with a deep understanding of the concepts offered by those various  disciplines, I have been exposed to a fair  number of individuals who study those ideas and concepts, as well as many people exploring the deeper nature of their being.

I have noticed within my interactions with many individuals who strive to understand the greater nature of their own being, a strong proclivity to define much of what they believe to be the negative aspects of themselves, and those parts of them that seem resistant to a freer flow of experience and expression, as the ego.

I have also noticed, that there is a great tendency to give old concepts a new name, but to retain the old ideas even with the name change. And when I say I have noticed, I am not equating that with something wrong or bad, simply a noticing of patterns that may be hard to view, and in that make movement more difficult for those who desire it.

Part of my noticing has been this. We seem to have given God a new name...The Universe. But as I listen to the manner in which people use the word and associate themselves with it, it seems apparent that they perceive The Universe as something outside of themselves that provides for them if particular concepts and actions are adhered to.

Perhaps this concept is a less judgemental persona then God, but the concept is still of something external, that may or may not have your best interests at heart. Again I endeavor to  be a reflection of our action, so that we may make a choice regarding it, and do not stand in judgement of the action itself.

This switching of terms may be in part what we have done with what is termed the Ego. Perhaps in decades past and even today in certain circles, we would refer to these actions within us, as the devil or satan. Again something outside of ourselves, something separate, that is defined in a very restrictive manner, born of our beliefs and physical experience of seeming separation, within the settings of time and space.

Does any action, any movement, any experience of any kind, actually occur disconnected from consciousness/energy/awareness, the infinite, timeless, perpetually expanding, unendingly dymanic, simultaneously unique yet interconnected, action that is the core of our beingness, and the means of our exploration of our creativity?

The answer must come from yourself. Is any aspect of the unendingness that we are, locked into an expression that it is then unable to express beyond?

Is the Ego a thing? A construct that is defined  in an absolute manner, such as we might define a table or a rock? And what of that table or rock. Have we not found with the advent of deeper understandings in physics, that what we consider a construct having particular properties to our physical senses, as they have been commonly used, is in fact a dymanic expression of energy, happening in a way, much different than our senses would lead us to believe.

In other words, we have had an experience, guided by a particular way of perceiving, that has resulted in concepts and ideas and experiences, of a reality that we did not question the validity of, only a few short years ago.

In this journey of an expanded understanding and experience of ourselves, to approach any aspect of ourselves without acceptance and understanding, is to engender an energy of opposition and judgementalism, applied then to ourselves, that stifles our movement toward an experience of the expansive aspects of ourselves.

Personality and ego, I will suggest, are not one and the same. The ego is an action, a construct, dynamic in nature, as all aspects of us must be, whose purpose is to respond to the ideas and concepts that we hold about our physical reality, and to then bring the experiences about, that correspond to those beliefs we hold about our lives here.

This program/action/tool, that we have created in order to have this physical experience, is not the opponent that many have made it out to be. It is instead only doing the job we have created it to do. It is much larger a phenomenon, than most have understood it to be. It is only because our concepts of ourselves have been so narrow, that the reality that we experience here, by virtue of the ego, has seemed so restrictive.

If you put money into a pop machine, and then press the botton to get a root beer, you can't be angry at the pop machine for giving you root beer.

Thus is our situation with the ego. You can't fault it for doing it's job. Well, you can, but it will get you nowhere.

It is a much happier journey to instead endeavor to come to an understanding of how the ego and the personality as well as the other aspects of us, combine to form the experience we have here before and around us.

It is also a very disempowering action, to place the responsibility of your experience here, onto an idea, or a construct, that you also place outside of yourself.

Leave overly restrictive concepts of the ego in your rear view mirror, and allow yourself to embrace a more expansive understanding of your creation of your experience, and the means by which it comes about. ( my opinion of course).

As many have said, I do not expect you to take what I have to say at face value, rather put it to the test, and see what the results are for you. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised.

In Love, Chuck :)

Myanmar as a reflection of ourselves

Posted on May 17th, 2008 by Dreamtraveler : shaman of experience Dreamtraveler
The immensity of what we actually are, can often times be very difficult to grasp. When we hear or utter the words " we create our reality ", the meaning and definition is a translation of the awareness we have of ourselves in that moment. The depth of the concept that we create our own reality is rarely understood from a true experiential point of view. Which is the only way it can really, actually be understood.

In this light is the association of the events of Myanmar, and their association with all individuals on the planet, to some degree or another, with perhaps, perhaps, an exception or three.

What we have with the situation in Myanmar, is a country and a people who have experienced a tramatic  event and are not able to receive assistance due to the manner in which the government of the country is responding.

I have come to a place in my concepts of myself and experience that I view the world around me in part, as a reflection of the concepts and ideas and issues I hold within myself, or that we hold collectively.

In this the imagery or symbolism of Mayanmar for me is a reflection, or perhaps for many, in a more immediate fashion, a mirror, for the experience they have going on in the moment.

And by this I am referring to how we all have trauma and painful situations that we have experienced, but we have aspects of ourselves that prevent us from getting to those issues, so that help can be rendered to those areas of ourselves which are in need. You can say that we have our own type of "government agency" that interferes with our desires at healing.

And here I am not talking about the ego, but rather the resistance we have through feelings and ideas that we have made very powerful within us, that make approaching the traumatic events in our lives a difficult undertaking.

So in part, I believe that the events we see and/or hear about within our world, are there to remind us of the issues we have yet to address and move beyond within ourselves both individually and collectively.

In this time of transformation, we will continue to bring the issues that we need to address up, until we pay attention to those issues and address them in an accepting and appreciative way. We will find that feelings and concepts of blame, guilt, shame and victimization will not serve us within this undertaking, but that a deepening understanding of the process we are within will best help in the transformation we are experiencing.

Which is your dominant sense?

Posted on Feb 23rd, 2008 by Dreamtraveler : shaman of experience Dreamtraveler
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 23, 2008:

Reflection for a few moments led me to realize that my dominant sense is not what is usually considered one of the five senses. I would have to say my dominant sense is feeling/sensing.  As in how you feel about a situation or an individual, or the sense you get about a decision you are about to make; that type of sense.

It has become the dominant way I perceive my experience, though the others are still very much a part of the mix, and I would even say are enhanced in the past few years. For me there is a fullness in the experience that this sense brings, that was not present before it became so much a part of my experience.

A Question of Authority

Posted on Feb 15th, 2008 by Dreamtraveler : shaman of experience Dreamtraveler
This shifting time that we all find ourself within can be challenging in a very unique way to many individuals.

In the past, the challenges we usualy encountered, seemed to be primarily of the physical nature. How was I going to eat, what was I going to do to prevent the elements or an animal from causing me injury. How do I protect my property and my family from others in the world outside. What means should I use to ensure that I will be able to secure a job, and therefore enough money to survive and live a productive life.

By and large society seemed to play by rules we understood and had grown familiar with. In this state, as we interacted with the challenges of the day, we felt like we were doing it from a place of firm footing.

This is begining to change, and one of the large changes, and one that seems very confusing and conflict generating for many, is the idea of authority.

We are begining to come out of a period, some two thousand or so years old, where the concept of various types of authority that resided outside of ourselves was the order of the day.

These symbols of authority took many expressions. They were expressed as an older brother or sister, they were expressed as your father and/or mother. They were expressed as: the government, religion, society, your boss, the captain of your team, your husband, your wife, God, the leader of your country or state or town, and in many other ways.

We are in the early stages of a great time of change. A time when, little by little, we will come to understand the power and ability that each of us is author to. This however, is not an experience we are familiar with within our recent history. We are used to looking to others for the answers of our lives when difficulties arise, and to rely on others to choose our direction for us, and to tell us what is right and wrong, good or bad, better or worse.

For the individual unaware of the change unfolding for all of us, this shifting state of authority, can bring about varying states of conflict, as they attempt to resolve the experiences they are having and viewing, from the perspective of a model that we are rapidly leaving behind.

When varying issues arise within life, whether they be of a personal or a community or social nature, the more we look to others to decide how we should respond to these various issues, the more we will find conflict in the midst of these experiences.

This means that to look to the President to solve the issues of the country, or to religion to solve the issues of our world, or life, or to rely on another individual to make our world seem safe to us, will prove to be a very frustrating process.

This, however, is what we are used to doing. And in a time not very far removed from the one we presently find ourselves in, that may have worked out to a large degree. That will not be true any longer however. In this time, each of us is being challenged to understand the ability we have as the creator of our personal and collective experience. And in this, we will allow, less and less, the idea that others are the ones to make the decisions in our life and for our experience.

We have upon us a time when we will need to look within us, to understand in a genuine way, the way WE actually feel about an issue or choice. Courage, will to many varying degree, need to be expressed. Not only courage, but a growing trust in ourselves. To know that the way we feel about an issue, if it seems to benifit us, as well as all others, is a good choice to make, regardless of the way another may see it.

As we come to accept and appreciate and trust ourselves in an ever increasing way, our ability to choose in a manner that will not only have a positve and fulfilling effect upon us, but also on all others, will become progressively easier.

When moving into an area of change, especially when it concerns a movement so very familiar to us, the words spoken once by a well known figure within our government are fitting. All we have to fear, is fear itself.

A movement to know and understand the unlimited nature of your being, and the allowance of that awareness to flow into this experience, will serve you better in this time of change, than any other process you may choose to implement. ( my opinion of course ).

Embrace your authority in this experience of your life, and feel and interact directly with the outcome of that choice.

No Destination

Posted on Feb 1st, 2008 by Dreamtraveler : shaman of experience Dreamtraveler
.....Consider...the ocean...on our fair planet we have named five of them: the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian, the Artic, the Antarctic. When viewed from space, there is the appearance of one body of water surrounding the land masses. We have given them names dependent on location and qualities.
If we were to ask someone what an ocean is, we may receive the response that it is a large body of salt water. Many times in the definition of the ocean, the many uniquenesses within are not considered.
The Artic ocean is very cold, the Indian Ocean at the tip of Africa has huge waves. If you were to venture into the North Atlantic you may experience storms of incredible power. Explore the depths of the ocean, near volcanic vents and the water is extremely hot. Explore near many of the Continents and you find streams of fresh water.
There are currents that move water of one temperature to other areas of the ocean. At one moment the ocean may be calm and tranquil, and at another stormy and ominous.
Gaze beneath the surface and you will find that an almost indescribable array of life exists there.
The Ocean, one and endlessly unique simultaneously.

....You...Essense...Cosciousness...Spirit...Energy....All That Is...God...Awareness...The Tao...Prana...Nameless...; One and endlessly unique simultaneously.
Do not seek to become what you already are. You are physical and non-physical simultaneously. Looking to the future for a time when you are more enlightened will not speed the knowledge of yourself. Embrace the you now. Know the you in this moment. Observe the actions that produce the experience you perceive about you.
To know this experience is purposeful and totally flows from the infinity that you are, brings peace, harmony, and a fulfillment of experience that must be had to be understood.
As you take your first step toward the release of searching outside of yourself, that which lies within will begin to show itself to you. This is not to say that you walk away from physical reality. Instead you embrace it with the enthusiasm of a child, moving out into the discovery of an ever new day.
This is YOUR experience. It is YOUR CREATION. You, in each moment, create it the way it is perceived by this aspect of you.

Desire is the driving force of all action/creation. The endless you stretches itself into an uncountable number of experiences as the resut of it's desire to do so.

Eternity has nothing to do with time, but is an edless action, that takes an endless number of forms and themes, as the infintude that is you/us explores the potentials within.

Your present imagination will not suffice to capture the you that you are. You are far to vast.

The Ego is not your enemy, something to be shunned and cast aside at the first opportunity; it is instead, of your creation, a blessed companion that sees to it that the experience you chose/choose to have here, is/are created in a manner that is totally believable by this aspect of yourself. Able to walk between the worlds, it is both the means by which you have created an experience seemingly of limitation, and the vehicle by which you will see beyond the limitations that you once self imposed, as you allow yourself to accept your experience for the adventure and exploration you know it to be.

You are only of love, you are only of acceptance, you are only of appreciation, you are only of awareness, you are only of knowledge. None of the beliefs you have about any negative aspects of you that you hold to be within you have any creedance what so ever.  You must begin your journey  with at least a small amount of trust and hope that this is true, and you cannot help but do that, because the truth that resides within you knows that it is.

If you do not understand the powerful creator that you are, you will not understand why life does not show you the you, you hope it will, when you doubt that that you is there and believe a less than worthy you dwells within instead. This then is the you the world will acknowledge, as it reflects the energy and beliefs of this somehow less than palatable you, that you perceive yourself to be.

In this place, this experience, this exploration, this adventure, whatever you choose to believe will be the truth DeJur.  Within this experience, beliefs are the filters which add the substance to the energy that we project into our experience. This is the way we decided to produce the experience we have here. It is unique and allows for infinite diversity in creativity.

So what you believe will create the experience you perceive.

More to come......
